It is sadly inevitable that death touches all of us, and the Church has an important place in supporting people through this difficult time in a variety of ways.  A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth, as well as being a time to say goodbye to our loved ones and express our grief, it is also the opportunity for friends and family to celebrate and give thanks for the life that has ended and commend the person into God’s keeping.

Like other churches, everyone at St Nicolas would want to offer you every possible support during this difficult time. We would want to work with you to provide a service that can reflect the personality of the person who has died and the circumstances of their death.

Usually an undertaker will contact one of the clergy or the verger and make the arrangements for you. It is important that they do this before fixing the date and time of the service. There are also choices in the style and content of the funeral.  You have the option to have your loved one either buried or cremated and the undertaker will help you with that decision - the Churchyard at St Nicolas is closed for burials, however ashes can still be interred. We can also arrange thanksgiving services for the life of a dear one.

St Nicolas also have a bereavement support group and can help with someone to talk to at what can be a very traumatic time. Please call 07752 854042 to speak with one of our team.
